GW3 STATS SUMMARY

Team xG
3.17 - Man City
2.75 - Brentford
2.28 - Chelsea
2.22 - Bournemouth
2.09 - Brighton
City top as expected but Bournemouth nice and high again.
Shots conceded
23 - West Ham
22 - Arsenal
20 - Newcastle
20 - Southampton
18 - Bournemouth
Once again, Southampton conceding a lot of shots which bodes well for Bruno owners this week.
Player xG
1.50 - Haaland
1.34 - Jackson
1.09 - Wissa
1.00 - Isak
0.89 - Saka
Jackson very high up this week and with Chelsea’s nice fixture run, he could be a good option.
Unsurprisingly Haaland is top.
Player xA
0.76 - McNeil
0.74 - Ouattara
0.70 - Gibbs-White
0.70 - Palmer
0.67 - Murphy
McNeil in the top 5 for the second week in a row.
Palmer high as always.
Shots
6 - Porro, Wissa, De Bruyne
5 - Tavernier, Semenyo, Haaland, Brereton Diaz, Wood
4 - Mbeumo, Jackson, Delap, Cunha, Saka, Baleba, Odobert
Porro looks an absolute gift at ÂŁ5.5m despite the low chance of clean sheets.
Semenyo high again.
Shots on target
4 - Haaland
3 - Mbeumo, Jackson, Wood, Saka, Tavernier
No surprises that Haaland is top.
Mbeumo looks a steal at his price from GW6 onwards.
KEEP OR SELL? - Isak
There’s no ignoring the fact that Newcastle have started the season pretty badly so I do understand why people are selling Isak.
There seems to be a few problems behind the scenes at Newcastle which won’t be helping that.
I think even when Newcastle aren’t at their best, Isak will tick along and will be involved in goals.
This week’s game against Wolves is a good fixture so I don’t think there’s any rush to move him on.
However, we’ve seen how both Salah and Haaland have been smashing it so far and most people started with only one of them.
Therefore, to get the other, they need to generate funds from somewhere.
Isak to JoĂŁo Pedro appears to be a popular way of doing this.
If that is your reason for selling Isak then I don’t mind it as João Pedro has fantastic fixtures for the next couple of weeks.
However, if you don’t need to generate funds then I think it’s fine to keep Isak.
KEEP OR SELL? - JOTA
This is one that I really don’t understand.
If you’re selling a midfielder this week then it’s most likely to buy a Liverpool midfielder.
Of course, the more popular ones are Salah and Diaz right now but for me, it’s not worth switching between Liverpool mids.
In the last 2 games, Jota has been dropping slightly deeper unlike against Ipswich in GW1 but he’s still generally playing high.
I don’t think his positioning is enough of a problem.
As an example, he nearly got on the end of the ball for Diaz’s first goal against United.
Jota is an easy keep for me.
KEEP OR SELL? - GVARDIOL
We’ve seen in the first 3 games that Gvardiol isn’t taking up the wide attacking left space that he was at the end of last season.
This, of course, decreases his value as a premium ÂŁ6.0m defender.
The main question around this is whether or not he continues this deeper role and that centres around Kyle Walker and Rico Lewis.
It is likely that if Walker plays, then Gvardiol will push higher and it will be similar to the system from last season.
We know that Walker, among others, came back late after playing in the Euros so was not up to speed to play initially.
Rico Lewis has been fantastic in the hybrid RB/attacking midfielder role in Walker’s absence so it’s not a given that he’ll come straight back in.
The Lewis role in this City system can’t really be playing by anyone else besides maybe Stones who would be pushing up from CB as opposed to RB like Lewis.
So the question then becomes whether or not Pep wants to stick with this system.
Pep has said that the season starts after the international break as that is when he has all his players fit and available.
Additionally, Walker didn’t go on international duty whereas, Lewis did so Pep has had 2 weeks to work with Walker.
The short answer is we don’t know what Pep will do system-wise from GW4 onwards.
The fixture is good in GW4 so I would personally hold Gvardiol for one more week to assess.
WILDCARD DRAFT
This is the team that I would go with if I were wildcarding this week.
Heavy in defence with a view to getting 2 more Arsenal players in GW6.
CAPTAINCY
Haaland, Salah and Eze are the 3 best captain options this week in my opinion.
I’ve developed a captaincy model that will help you choose who to captain each week.
Check out the numbers for this week’s top 10 in my YouTube video below.
MY TEAM SELECTION
This is how my team currently looks for this week.
I have 2 free transfers and will be rolling this week.
If Konsa is out then I’m happy for Robinson to come in.
If you are interested in my detailed thoughts on my future plans and when I’m thinking of using my wildcard then check out my team selection video below.
